THE ARTS SOCIETY
WINCHESTER

Our Society was founded in 1979. It was initially called Itchen Valley Decorative & Fine Arts Society (IVDFAS) and met at St Faiths Hall, Winchester. In 1987, as our membership increased, we moved to our current venue at Winchester Guildhall. At the 1994 AGM it was decided to change the society’s name to Winchester Decorative & Fine Arts Society (WDFAS).

The Arts Society Winchester (TASW) is a member society of The Arts Society (TAS) and meets monthly (except July, and August) on the third Tuesday of each month (except in July & August) for lectures on fine and decorative arts by accredited TAS lecturers. We hold four study days per programme year on a variety of artistic subjects and arrange outing to places of interest. Our aim is to give members the opportunity to make friends with people with similar artistic interests, as well as providing the opportunity for members to enjoy stimulating and interesting lectures, study days and outings which will increase their knowledge and understanding of the decorative and fine arts.

TASW is actively promoting arts initiatives for young people in the Winchester area through its Young Arts programme. We are also in the process of planning conservation and heritage projects. We have an active Church Recorders group of volunteers, Heritage Volunteers and a Social Circle!
